Adventure Newsletter

Hi there

We’re home once more after a successful trip to Nepal and China, a highlight of which was our Group Trip to Everest Base Camp.

In the Journal From The Wild series, I share snippets from the day we reached Base Camp. We’d already experienced many days of challenging trekking with several in the Group having to dig deep to continue.

On reaching Base Camp my personal highlight was seeing everyone’s well deserved excitement and the pleasure in knowing we were 100% successful.

Every member of our Group has raised their personal bar and I applaud their tenacity, humour and collective good will to support each other.

The traditional New Zealand hiking season is now well underway and I’ve added the beautiful Kepler Track in Fiordland to the Great Walks Snapshots.

While in China we had great fun trying to figure out how to order food which was not helped by our total lack of Chinese language skills. In the process we had many laughs with the enormously patient waitstaff as they tried to decipher our requests.

Below I share my recommendations for trail runners and after hiking over 4,000km in the last year in just the one brand, I can confidently say they’re the best for me. Maybe they are for you too, be sure to check them out.

If you’ve any travel related questions and would like to pick my brains, you can “Ask me Anything”. When you book your call, you will have direct access to my time, experience and knowledge plus it’ll save you a truckload of time.

More details on all of this below.

In the meantime, take care, lots of love Sharon 💚

Great Walks Snapshots 📔

Kepler Track is described as a challenging trail which traverses high over mountains and deep down into glacier carved valleys.

Highlights include stunning waterfalls, ancient beech forests, lakeside walks, sparkling rivers and tussock covered alpine tops with magnificent Fiordland views.

I braced myself for the next gust, feet wide, knees bent, crouching over my hiking poles. I could see the track snaking along the ridge line with steep drop-offs on either side.

Taste 🧄

Choosing what to eat when we couldn’t speak or read a word of Chinese led to some hilarious encounters during our visit to China.

Our inability to communicate however led to us meeting and connecting with many locals as they tried to help us make good choices 🧄

Guangzhou - Taste of China

For one fabulous week, Andrew and I wandered through the busy streets, back alleys, parks and lake district of Guangzhou stopping when we were hungry to sample the local food.

Journal From The Wild 🏔️

After seven hard days trekking we arrived at Everest Base Camp. The pain of the challenging terrain, extreme altitude and lack of sleep was immediately forgotten as we gazed in wonder at the mountains surrounding us.

Having woken at 5am to the freezing cold, I reflected once more on Raju’s briefing the night before. For the first time since leaving Lukla, Raju warned that this was going to be a hard day.
